THE PROLOGUE

It is difficult enough to edify one’s conceptions on reality and existence just to one’s self; let alone express them through one’s writing.

What is it to Exist? Is it merely a construct of perception via our senses as the empiricists would claim?

I find there is no discernable answer to Exist. But possibly we may step closer to an answer if we ask a different question. How do we Co-Exist? Yes, we need to define the Term Exist- but my thoughts on the term will come later. So, please, bear with me.

We all, each of us, are products of our nature, experiences, desires, morals, emotions, and so on and so on. This is to say, we are all individuals of an equally Unique- and equally Insignificant- form. Individuality is a wonderful and powerful privilege born of thousands of years of evolution. But it also is a form often destructive to our ability to Unite as a People and Species. Individuality is a product of abstract thought- and therefore human consciousness. What an incredible power we each have. Each of us.
But here’s the rub. Having such a power leads us to believe we are of greater importance than All other Things. This is a destruct perception. Necessary to a degree in order for self-survival but none-the-less detrimental to the Co-Existence with all other Beings and Forms.
I ask a question. How can we- for lack of a better word- ‘transcend’ the destructive natures of this Self Central Perspective? I offer 2 theories. Mere thoughts.

1. Recognize that Judgment- which is a natural human response- is a product of Emotion and Ignorance. Especially in Modern Day living; we instantly hold fast to our initial Reactions to Others. We quickly after create Judgments based upon those Reactions. But that reaction is not founded within any pursuit of Understanding. It’s found in ignorant initial emotional responses. And then we seek to Confirm these responses as apposed to Understand why we made them or if they are even Valid. I suggest one try a day void of judgment upon anyone else. A difficult endeavor no doubt. But do this; in each response to anyone or any situation- afterwards ask yourself if you were seeking to understand the specifics of the situation or were you instantly reacting and judging? Then continue on to next moment of the day. Do not boast. Do not brag. Merely flow through the day and persevere to be in each moment. Focused and attentive. Seeking LOGIC as apposed to only Reaffirmation. Avoid frustration- and when an initial emotional response veers its ugly head DO NOT beat yourself up but merely seek to understand why you reacted in such a way.
*****I feel it extremely necessary to make a Big Point Here. That is this; We cannot seek to improve those situations and circumstances outside of ourselves in any form of Morality or Virtue without first seeking to Individually Improve Ourselves….Now back to your previously scheduled ‘Program’.

2. Recognize the Road traveled to be as significant- if not more important- than the Destination. In this day and age we are so consumed by the Ends and ignore the Means. Regarding the American mentality; this perception fits real snug next to Capitalism and the ‘American Dream’- but that is for another Blog. Socrates never claimed to have the answer or know anything but saw great Purpose and meaning in the Pursuit of it. I’ve come to term this- for myself- the “Seeking to Understand”. We may not know the answer- though it is good to have them- but we only need to seek it. Recognize the path we are taking to that knowledge and See that merely being on the Path is an Advancement and Growth within your understanding. By merely seeking the answer we are thereby enhancing ourselves! Incredible.

This commonly disregarded pursuit of understanding I find too essential to my nature to brush away. We’ve come to call it Philosophy. I, personally feel, that any advancement of our species in the 21st Century must have a foundation of Morality and Virtue. We must be seeking Truth and an ability to co-exist. Philosophy may hold within it our Species’ Evolution. It is now 2009. Where were we in 1009? Where will we be in 3009? I FEAR- again fear not believe- our Species will be extinct by 3009. Plenty of you out there no doubt think me crazy but this fear I have isn’t born of emotion- its born of viewing not just where we are now but also seeking to understand as much as I can about where We have been.

In summation for this Prologue and quasi-Proclamation I leave you with a little more something. No being is EVIL or solely a product of the CRUELTY- I’ll go with the old Greek thought that there are only Evil Acts- which are a product of a being’s ignorance. But that ignorance can dissipate if one only Seeks to Understand. You don’t have to believe what I’m writing and it is not entirely necessary to Me that you do. Selfishly this is a way to improve my own writing and advance my own understanding. But I hope, none-the-less, you take something from this- along with the other blogs- and we, each of us, thereby enrich our own Perceptions and inner Natures. We, each of us, advance down the road of Understanding.
